Justin Bieber Freaks Over Being Related To Ryan Gosling & Avril Lavigne: ‘The Best Day Of My Life’ – Hollywood Life

August 31st, 2019

After doing a search on Ancestry.com, Justin Bieber is claiming he’s related to fellow Canadians Ryan Gosling & Avril Lavigne — posting that the findings seem ‘super legit.’

According to Justin Bieber, his family just got bigger! The 25-year-old pop star did a genealogy search on Ancestry.com, and discovered that, apparently, he’s related to fellow Canadians Ryan Gosling and Avril Lavigne. “I also just found out that I’m related to both Ryan gosling and Avril Lavigne this is the best day of my life..,” Justin posted on his Instagram Saturday, August 31. “it seems super legit it’s on ancestry.com.” The website claims to have “world’s largest collection of online records” — which is 20 billion.

Justin’s caption was attached to a screenshot of the detailed family tree, which explains that Ryan Gosling, 38, is Justin’s 11th cousin removed and Avril Lavigne, 34, is a 12th cousin removed. Both relations would be through Justin’s mother, Pattie Mallette. According to Ancestry.com, Justin, Ryan and Avril all claim Mathurn Roy and Marguerite Biré as their 11th great grandparents. Interestingly, the trio all hail from the province of Ontario: Justin grew up near Toronto in Stratford, Ryan hails from the city of London, and Avril was born in the town of Belleville.

Given that Justin has had many life milestones, including marrying Hailey Baldwin, 22, last September, signing to a record label at only 13, and winning his first Grammy in 2016 — the discovery seems like an odd choice to dub the “best day” of his life. About a minute after posting the photo on Instagram, Justin also tweeted, “Today is a good day.” Justin recently expressed that he’s a big fan of Ryan, writing “It’s about time we get another movie from the man, the legend Ryan Gosling,” in another Instagram post on August 18.

Justin’s longtime manager Scooter Braun seemed to agree with the family tree, commenting “I always saw a strong resemblance 😄.” The “Sorry” singer’s stylist Karla Welch, who also happens to be Canadian, chimed in, “I’m sure we are also related” — but JB’s discovery left most of his followers stumped. “why did the general public know this before you did, my guy?” one fan wrote, indicating that many Beliebers knew about the relations years ago due to public record. “We beliebers know this since 2011” and “i feel weird but am i the only who knew he was related to avril years ago” others commented. Avril and Ryan have yet to respond to Justin’s discovery, but perhaps they’ll make the invite list to his upcoming South Carolina wedding.

Texas shooting leaves at least 21 injured and 5 dead: police – Global News

August 31st, 2019

U.S. law enforcement said five people were killed and at least 21 people — including a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper — were injured in a shooting spree that shocked two neighbouring Texas cities on Saturday.

READ MORE: 20 dead, 26 wounded in El Paso, Texas, shooting: police

Story continues below

A suspect, identified as a white male in his mid-30s, was killed during an exchange of gunfire with police, Odessa police Chief Michael Gerke told reporters.

Gerke said there were multiple shooting scenes in the cities of Odessa and Midland, which are about 32 kilometres apart.

At least three law enforcement officers were among those shot. The Texas DPS said one officer is a state trooper in “serious but stable” condition. The other two officers are listed in stable condition.

Gerke said the suspect was known to him but declined to comment on a motive for the shootings.

Russell Tippin, CEO for the Medical Centre Hospital in Odessa, told reporters at 8:45 p.m. EDT that there are 13 victims in the hospital — not 14 victims, as he initially reported.

Two victims have been treated and released, Tippin said. Seven are critical.

“We’ve had eight people total in surgery and most of those are out and have gone very well,” he said.

One of the victims was a child under the age of two. Tippin said the child was transferred out of the hospital, which remains on lockdown.

“The outpouring has been nationwide,” he said. “We want to say thank you.”

Gerke cautioned that the investigation is in its early stages and the facts could change.

So far, Gerke said police believe the rampage started around 4:17 p.m. EDT, when a Texas Department of Public Safety officer attempted to stop a gold Honda and was shot. From there, the suspect drove away into Odessa and opened fire on victims in other areas.

The Texas DPS expanded on this incident in a Facebook post Saturday night. Their statement said the male driver in the gold vehicle was the only occupant.

Texas DPS said that before the vehicle came to a complete stop, the male driver “pointed a rifle toward the rear window” of the car and fired “several shots” at the patrol unit that attempted to stop him.

The patrol unit had two DPS Troopers — one was shot.

“The suspect fled the scene and continued shooting innocent people, including a Midland police officer and an Odessa police officer,” according to the Texas DPS statement.

After ditching the Honda, the suspect hijacked a USPS mail truck, Gerke said. He then went to the Cinergy movie theatre in Midland, where he came into contact with officers from multiple police forces and was killed.

Earlier, police said there could possibly be two suspects. They now believe there was only one.

Midland Mayor Jerry Morales told Reuters hundreds of people were enjoying the holiday weekend inside the Cinergy complex when the gunman was confronted by officers who boxed in his vehicle in the parking lot before shots were exchanged.

He said the suspect used a rifle to shoot the Texas Department of Public Safety officer who had stopped his vehicle, but did not know any more details about the weapon.

Morales said three police officers — one from Midland, one from Odessa and the Department of Public Safety officer — were wounded by gunfire. At one point, Midland police barricaded the highway to stop the suspect leaving Odessa, about 20 miles (32 km) away in the Permian oil boom area of West Texas.

“It was very chaotic,” Morales said by telephone. “There were rumours flying that the shooter was at shopping malls, the movie theater.”

Retail stores, a shopping mall and the University of Texas Permian Basin were locked down as rumours spread of the shootings and sightings, he said.

Morales said he was not told of the suspect’s identity, nor has any possible motive been disclosed.

At one point armed police ran through the Music City Mall in Odessa, forcing anchors for television station CBS 7, located inside, to duck off-screen as the building went into lockdown.

The shooting comes four weeks after a gunman killed 22 people in El Paso, about 490 km west of Midland.

U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted that the U.S. attorney general had briefed him on the incident.

Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren tweeted that she is “heartsick” after seeing news of the latest shooting in Texas.

“I’m heartsick for the victims of this latest mass shooting in Odessa and Midland,” she wrote on Twitter.

“We shouldn’t have to live with this near daily fear and horror. We’ve already lost far too many to gun violence—Congress must act now.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the shooting a “senseless and cowardly attack” in a statement Saturday evening.

He and his wife are “heartbroken” over the shooting, the statement said.

“We offer our unwavering support to the victims, their families, and all the people of Midland and Odessa,” Abbott said.

The state of Texas and the Department of Public Safety are working with police, he added.

“I want to remind all Texans that we will not allow the Lone Star State to be overrun by hatred and violence,” Abbott said.

He is expected to travel to Odessa Sunday morning.

An Odessa funeral home announced they are offering free funeral services for the victims of this shooting.

Perches Funeral Home has several locations in Texas. Ruth Lozano — manager for the Odessa location — said the owner did the same for victims of the shooting in El Paso earlier this month.

“We’re doing this to help the families in their time of need,” Lozano said. “They didn’t expect to have this expense and we want to make it easier.”

Gauff loses match but learns lessons from Osaka – CNA

August 31st, 2019

NEW YORK: Coco Gauff’s US Open came to an abrupt end under the bright lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium on Saturday (Aug 31) but the 15-year-old said she would leave New York a better player after falling to world number one Naomi Osaka.

Backed by lively support from the packed home crowd, the young American was clearly overmatched against the defending champion, who needed just over an hour to book her ticket to the fourth round.

Osaka, 21, showed impressive sportsmanship by giving Gauff the opportunity to thank her fans in the post-match interview on the showcase court.

“It was amazing. I’m going to learn a lot from this match,” a tearful Gauff said after the 6-3 6-0 defeat.

“She’s the number one player in the world right now, so I know what I need to do to get to that level.

“After the match, I think she just proved that she’s a true athlete. For me, the definition of an athlete is someone who on the court treats you like your worst enemy but off the court can be your best friend.

“I think that’s what she did tonight,” added Gauff, who trained at the same Florida tennis centre as Osaka when they were younger.

Osaka said she had the idea to invite Gauff into the interview when they were shaking hands at the net.

“The thing that people don’t see is that we go into the locker room and just cry and do press after,” she said.

“I thought it would be nice if she addressed the people who came and obviously cheered so hard for her.

“She’s had an incredible week so I thought I’d just make a positive statement out of it.”

While she was full of compassion after the match Osaka was all business on the court, avoiding Gauff’s dangerous backhand and taking advantage of her shaky serving on a warm night in Flushing Meadows.

Osaka predicted Gauff would become a threat to the game’s top players when she builds some more power.

Gauff took the tennis world by storm at Wimbledon this year where she reached the fourth round and was given a wildcard to play at Flushing Meadows.

After a memorable battle in the second round with Tina Babos on Thursday Gauff was unable to make much inroads against Osaka’s powerful serve, converting two of five break point opportunities and issuing seven double faults.

Gauff’s US Open is not quite over, as she will team up with Catherine McNally to take on Kveta Peschke and Nicole Melichar in the second round of the women’s doubles on Sunday.

For Osaka, a meeting with 13th seed Belinda Bencic awaits.

Dior pulls Johnny Depp perfume ad after claims of cultural appropriation – CNA

August 31st, 2019

Online critics accused the luxury brand of stereotyping for using Native American culture in a fragrance called Sauvage.

Johnny Depp and Dior are under fire after being criticised for cultural appropriation, with the luxury brand pulling out its new advertisement that used Native American culture to sell its Sauvage fragrance line.

The advert campaign titled We Are The Land, which briefly appeared on social media before it was removed on Friday (Aug 30), featured the actor playing a guitar in the desert while a member of the Rosebud Sioux tribe performed a warrior dance in traditional wardrobe. It also starred Twilight actress Tanaya Beatty, whose mother is of Da’Naxda’xw Nation descent.

But social media critics were having none of it, claiming it was insensitive to feature Native American culture for a perfume with a French word for “savage” and that it promoted stereotypes.

The video, which said to have been done in collaboration with advocacy group Americans For Indian Opportunity, was filmed in the Canyonlands, the ancestral lands of the Apache, Navajo and Ute people.

Depp is no stranger to this particular controversy – in 2012, he was made an honourary member of the Comanche tribe back and he has also mentioned having Native American ancestry. For the 2013 film The Lone Ranger, he also played the Native American sidekick Tonto.

Dior had explained that the creators had been in close contact with Native American consultants “in order to respect indigenous cultures, values and heritage.”

But it did little to calm people down online. “White ppl need to understand that it doesn’t matter if Native Americans participated in the ad. Dior is using our culture next to the word sauvage, profiting on our people and I guarantee you not a dime is going to us,” wrote one.

Another said: “Someone on the Dior creative team: Hey, since the fragrance is called Sauvage, let’s make it Indian-themed! Ya know cause Indians are wild and savage!’”

American Gods actress Kawennahere Devery Jacobs tweeted: “You’re telling me that @Dior is profiting off Indigenous culture/imagery, and hired JOHNNY DEPP to star in the ad for a perfume called SAUVAGE?! …who thought this was okay?”

Sedentary lifestyle for 20 years linked to doubled early mortality risk compared to being active – Science Daily

August 31st, 2019

Two decades of a sedentary lifestyle is associated with a two times risk of premature death compared to being physically active, according to results from the HUNT study presented today at ESC Congress 2019 together with the World Congress of Cardiology.

Study author Dr Trine Moholdt of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway said: “Our findings imply that to get the maximum health benefits of physical activity in terms of protection against premature all-cause and cardiovascular death, you need to continue being physically active. You can also reduce your risk by taking up physical activity later in life, even if you have not been active before.”

The aim of this study was to assess how changes in physical activity over 22 years were related to subsequent death from all causes and from cardiovascular disease. Most studies investigating the relationship between physical activity and longevity have asked participants about their level of physical activity only once, and then followed them for several years. But physical activity is a behaviour that changes in many people, so it is important to investigate how such changes over time relate to the risk of death in the future.

The HUNT study invited all residents of Norway aged 20 and older to participate in 1984-1986, 1995-1997, and 2006-2008. At all three time points, individuals were asked about their frequency and duration of leisure time physical activity. The current study used the data from the first and third surveys.

A total of 23,146 men and women were included in the analysis. Physical activity was categorised as inactive, moderate (less than two hours a week), and high (two or more hours per week). Participants were divided into groups according to their activity levels at each survey.

Physical activity data were linked to information on deaths until the end of 2013 using the Norwegian Cause of Death Registry. The risk of death in each physical activity group was compared to the reference group (those who reported a high level of exercise during both surveys). The analyses were adjusted for factors known to influence prognosis such as body mass index, age, sex, smoking, education level, and blood pressure.

Compared to the reference group, people who were inactive in both 1984-1986 and 2006-2008 had a 2-fold higher likelihood of all-cause death and 2.7-fold greater risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. Those with moderate activity at both time points had 60% and 90% raised risks of all-cause and cardiovascular deaths, respectively, compared to the reference group.

Dr Moholdt noted that there are clear recommendations about the amount of exercise adults should do to optimise their health, which are 150 minutes a week of moderate intensity or 75 minutes a week of vigorous intensity aerobic physical activity.

But she added: “An important point to make here is that physical activity levels even below the advised levels will give health benefits. Physical fitness is more important than the amount of exercise. Clinicians should individualise their advice and help people do even smaller amounts of activity that will improve fitness — this includes all types of exercise that make you breathe heavily.”

“Do activities you like and get more movement into your everyday life,” she continued. “For example, walk to the shops instead of driving, get off the metro a stop early, and use stairs instead of the lift. I recommend everyone to get out of breath at least a couple of times each week.”

As for those who changed categories between surveys, people who went from inactive to highly active had a mortality risk that was between those who were continually active or continually sedentary. In contrast, those who went from highly active to inactive had a similar risk of dying as those who were inactive at both surveys.

“Our data indicate that you can compensate for a previously inactive lifestyle and the sooner you get active, the sooner you will see positive results,” said Dr Moholdt. “My advice is to establish good exercise habits as early in life as possible. The health benefits extend beyond protection against premature death to effects in the body’s organs and on cognitive function. Physical activity helps us live longer and better lives.”

Camila Cabello Gets Real About the Topic of Love in Cryptic Video – E! NEWS

August 31st, 2019

Camila Cabello has love on the brain.

The 22-year-old singer took to social media to share all of her thoughts on the topic, which led many to believe she was seemingly teasing new music and revealing the inspiration behind it. “What Do I Know About Love?,” the title of her YouTube video reads, and is also the opening line she says in the beginning of the video.

“Where does the love go when it runs out? When does it leave? Why does it die,” she asks in her 3-minute clip. “Do you kill it in one violent blow? Or is it a million unattended, unhealed little cuts and scratches?”

She continued, “What do I know about love? Everything.”

“What I know for sure about love is that you never come out of it the same,” the “Señorita” singer expresses. “The other person is a chemical and I am a chemical and we’ll both come out as different people than when we met.”

“I know that when you’re in love kissing is everything because words aren’t the only way to tell somebody how you feel,” she continues. “I know when you call in love you, feel like you’re the first and only two people in the world. Every kiss, every touch, every caress is like something you feel nobody has ever felt before.”

Before ending her video, she leaves her viewers with one last message: “What do I know about love? Maybe nothing. And that’s why it’s everything.”

Her cryptic video and Instagram post comes off the heels of her rumored romance with Shawn Mendes. In fact, just last week she had the look of love in her eyes as she saw him perform in New York City. And the two recently gave a steamy performance during the 2019 MTV VMAs.

Before that, they packed on the PDA in Canada during a romantic getaway.

However, despite their blossoming romance, the two remain focused on their music, which is why many fans believe Camila is coming out with a new album.

While the 22-year-old star is being tight-lipped about her latest video and Instagram posts, it’s only a matter of time before she announces what she has in the works.
