Retailer Weighs In On Deaths, Cases Of Lung Illness Linked To Vaping – WCCO | CBS Minnesota

September 7th, 2019

HOPKINS, Minn. (WCCO) – Health concerns related to e-cigarettes and vaping have retailers wanting to clear the air.

The CDC has reported at least four deaths potentially connected to vaping and around 450 cases of lung damage or illness nationwide. One of those deaths happened in Minnesota. Doctors said the man had a severe respiratory illness.

Vaping Studio in Hopkins has been in business for six years, but it’s only been in the past few weeks that general manager Josh Hassing has fielded a certain set of questions.

“Probably every other customer we’ve seen in here since this whole thing started has been asking about the hospitalizations, the illnesses, what we think is causing it, and that’s what led us to do all this research and kind of figure out what we think is at the bottom line of it,” Hassing said.

He feels part of what’s to blame for the recent spike in hospitalizations is not from the products sold legally on his shelves.

“It’s not a nicotine-based vape that’s really causing a lot of these issues. I’m not saying it’s not causing any, but a lot of it is these THC-filled cartridges that are being picked up on the black market,” Hassing said.

His research has been partially substantiated. A Wisconsin state investigation found among all ages of those with lung disorders who reported vaping, 89% said they inhaled illicit THC products. THC is the main compound in marijuana.

In Minnesota, 11 of the 15 cases linked to vaping also reported using illegal THC, including one person who died. That patient had a history of lung disease.

The exact cause of the vaping health scare is unknown, but regardless if it is THC or nicotine, doctors feel vaping, especially among teens, is an epidemic.

“The lungs are struggling to deal with these chemicals that are being inhaled and the body’s way of handling that is to send more and more of the immune system to the lungs to try to get rid of something that it’s struggling with,” said Dr. Ann Griffiths, pediatric pulmonologist at Children’s Minnesota.

Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge used the State Fair as an opportunity to educate families on vaping, such as how it’s consumed and how strong e-cigarettes can be.

“Adolescents are the guinea pig generation. We don’t quite know yet what exactly the outcome is gonna be and what the harmful effects are gonna be,” said Amber Hewitt who was volunteering on behalf of the organization.

Hassing still feels vaping is a safer alternative to smoking and says transparency with customers is key. They mix their e-liquids right behind the counter in plain sight. Their CBD products are tested for pesticides and metals with paperwork to prove it.

“We will not do business with a company that does not have a certificate of analysis,” he said.

He does advise anyone looking to vape to do research on what they’re ingesting.

“Whether they come in here and start asking a million questions and I don’t get home until 8 at night or if they just look for unbiased sources online, to really figure out what’s going on instead of just jumping to conclusions,” he said.

The CDC said it’s helping states investigate whether the lung illnesses are linked to specific devices, ingredients or substances associated with vaping. Minnesota is collecting and sending illegal THC vape products for testing.

Eva Longoria’s Letter Supporting Felicity Huffman Details Drama On ‘Desperate Housewives’ Set – Deadline

September 7th, 2019

In an effort to support Felicity Huffman amid the college admissions scandal, Eva Longoria has revealed some of the behind-the-scenes drama at Desperate Housewives.

Longoria was one of 27 people, including Huffman’s husband William H. Macy, to write letters vouching for the actress as she awaits sentencing for her role in the elite college admissions case.

In her statement to judge, Longoria described Huffman as a “good friend” who welcomed her to the ABC series in 2004, when she was new to Hollywood. She noted that Huffman stood up for her when she was “bullied” at work.

“There was a time I was being bullied at work by a co-worker,” Longoria wrote, without naming the individual.

She said the bullying only stopped when Huffman intervened.

“I dreaded the days I had to work with that person because it was pure torture. Until one day, Felicity told the bully ‘enough’ and it all stopped,” Longoria wrote in the letter obtained by NBC News. “Felicity could feel that I was riddled with anxiety even though I never complained or mentioned the abuse to anyone.”

Longoria also told the judge Huffman consoled her when she was the only leading actress on the series not nominated for a Golden Globe.

“I wasn’t devastated but the press made it a bigger deal than it was between the four of us actors and that did affect me a bit,” she wrote.

Huffman has pleaded guilty to mail fraud after paying $15,000 to increase her daughter’s SAT score. Federal prosecutors are recommending she be sentenced to a one month in prison.

Her attorneys have asked for a year’s probation, community service and a $20,000 fine. She’ll be sentenced on September 13 in Boston.

Kendall Jenner Had A Run-In With Ex Blake Griffin Over Labor Day Weekend – Details Of The Hang Out – Hollywood Life

September 7th, 2019

Kendall and Blake dated for a few months in 2017, but the relationship soured shortly after Kendall was named in a lawsuit by Blake’s ex-fiancée.

There’s no awkward vibes between Kendall Jenner, 23, and her ex-boyfriend Blake Griffin, 30. The couple bumped into each at Soho House’s ultra-exclusive Malibu post over Labor Day weekend. “Kendall Jenner and ex Blake Griffin were very friendly when they ran into one another,” an eye witness shares with HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY. “There was nothing flirty at all happening and they hung out together and caught up for awhile just as friends. It was totally platonic.”

Kendall and Blake were first linked back in 2017, shortly after Blake ended his relationship with ex-fiancee Brynn Cameron, who he shares two kids with, that August. Kendall was repeatedly seen court side at Clippers games in the months after, and Blake also flew out to support his gal at New York Fashion Week. The NBA star was also on-hand for Kendall’s 22nd birthday party at Petit Taqueria in Los Angeles. The relationship fizzled, however, after Kendall was named in a lawsuit by Griffin’s ex in February 2018. “Griffin had no problem trading Brynn Cameron, his former fiancée and the mother of his two children, for reality television star Kendall Jenner,” the lawsuit read. Blake was then traded.

That wasn’t the only potentially-awkward run-in Kendall encountered while hanging out at the members only club. “Kyle Kuzma, another guy she had been hanging out with also showed up and the two spoke as well, but Kendall left alone,” the source revealed. Kendall was rumored to be dating the 24-year-old L.A. Lakers star after they were seen attending a house party and yachting around Malibu. “She’s not dating any of them but still considers herself friends with both of them. There was no drama or tension or weirdness whatsoever.”

Kendall narrowly missed her older half-brother Brody Jenner, 36, at the club, as well. “Kendall almost had a near run-in with her brother, Brody,” the insider continued. “He actually looked great. He arrived later in the day.” Brody has been a regular at the Malibu location recently, enjoying a romantic beachside date with girlfriend Josie Canseco, 22, on August 16. Brody and Kendall have a reportedly tense relationship, and he hasn’t been seen with either of his younger sisters in some time. None of the Kardashian family — including Kendall and Kylie — attended his wedding to Kaitlynn Carter, 30, last year. “My two little sisters, we never even heard from them. They never even RSVP’d I don’t think,” Brody explained during an interview with People.

Child Rapist Roman Polanski Wins Venice Film Festival Award – The Daily Beast

September 7th, 2019

Fugitive filmmaker Roman Polanski, convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl, was given a top honor at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday. Polanski, 86, who fled the United States after his guilty plea decades ago, got the Grand Jury Prize for his movie J’accuse (An Officer and a Spy), which is about a wrongfully convicted man. Variety reported that the Rosemary’s Baby director was not on hand in Venice to accept the award for his first film since he was thrown out of the United States’ Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Fresh off the catwalk!

With Fashion Week in full effect, celebs are flocking to the hottest shows and parties in New York City. From Kendall Jenner to Erika Jayne and Lisa Rinna, Hollywood’s biggest stars are making their way to the runway.

More surprisingly, though, Jenelle Evans and her beau David Eason sat front row at the InstaSleep Mint Melts Presents New York Fashion Week Nolcha Shows, where ELF SACKS featured its latest clothes, accessories and shoes for its Spring and Summer 2020 collection.

For the special occasion, which was held on Saturday, Sept. 7, the former Teen Mom OG star strutted her stuff in a body-hugging mini dress, which featured a classic striped pattern. She paired her dress with an over-sized denim jacket, black strappy heels and a fiery red-orange lip.

David kept things stylish as well, as he donned spicy orange pants, an off white button-down and fancy shoes.

Evans took to her Instagram Stories to share a few behind-the-scenes photos and videos of the runway show. “It’s a goat,” the reality TV personality captioned one video clip, which featured a model wearing a flashy and colorful ensemble.

Farrah Abraham also made an appearance at the show and debuted some blonde hair (although, it’s most likely a wig).

Jenelle Evans, David Eason

It appears the couple is still enjoying their night out in the Big Apple, as Jenelle recently posted they were at the Sugar Factory. “We can’t eat all of this,” she captioned one video, along with a crying-face emoji.

This isn’t the first time this year the former Teen Mom star has attended NYFW. Back in February, she turned it into a family affair at the Indonesian Diversity FW19 Collections show. She hit up the runway with daughter Ensley Jolie Eason and her step-daughter Maryssa Eason.

This time around, however, it seems Evan and Eason are the only ones going to the catwalks. On Saturday, the MTV star’s mom Barbara Evans posted an Instagram video that she was with her daughter’s kids, Jace and Kaiser.

“Jace , Kaiser and I on Oak Island,NC day after Hurricane Dorian. The calm after the terrible storm,” Barbara wrote.

Despite the couple’s rocky year after the dog shooting scandal, it appears Jenelle and David are trying to bounce back.

With NYFW still going strong, we just might see the couple sitting front row at more shows.
