Teen stabbed in Calgary dog park while walking with mother – CTV News

February 15th, 2020

CALGARY — A teenager walking his dog with his mom Saturday night was stabbed in what appears to be a random attack.

Calgary police say the two were walking in an off-leash dog park near 110th Avenue S.W. and 14th Street S.W. around 7:50 p.m. when they came across a man and the teen was stabbed.

The man then ran from the Braeside neighbourhood into the community of Southwood.

The 15-year-old was taken to hospital in serious condition.

“They are serious internal injuries,” Staff Sargent Jeff MacQueen told reporters on Sunday. “I expect he’ll be in hospital for the next while recovering.”

The suspect is described as being between 40 and 50 years old. At the time of the assault, he was wearing dark clothing and a three-quarter-length jacket with reflective markings.

Officials said the attack appears to be random and investigators are still looking for the suspect.

“There was no threat or demand for money, (and) that’s what leads us to believe that this is somewhat random,” MacQueen said. “We are still trying to figure out what the motive was.”

MacQueen added, “The whole situation is quite concerning for us… hopefully we’ll start to get some answers in the coming days”

On Sunday, many dog owners at the park said the stabbing will make them extra cautious.

“Just the thought that you could be here just enjoying some time on Family Day weekend with your family, and next thing you know, you’re stabbed for no reason… It alarms me quite a bit,” said Darren Dymsky.

MacQueen said there is currently no indication a similar attack could happen in the future.

Police are searching for security camera footage from the area and ask anyone who was in the area of Braeside and Southwood around that time and saw something suspicious to contact them at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Kandi Burruss releases statement after shooting at OLG restaurant – CBS46 News Atlanta

February 15th, 2020

EAST POINT, Ga. (CBS46) — Witnesses say Valentine’s Day celebrations came to a screeching halt when a male suspect walked into Old Lady Gang restaurant on Camp Creek Parkway and opened fire.

“We were waiting for our spot at the Juicy Crab, and we were waiting outside actually at that bench right there,” said witness Brynae Kinsey. “We heard two gunshots and I seen somebody run out that door, and I ran.”

It was a quiet, calm setting before screams were heard and gunshots were fired.

“I just heard her scream ‘ahhh,’ and then I heard two pops. Pop, pop,” said Kinsey. “I just wondered what was going through his head for him to pop off like that.”

East Police say the suspect entered the restaurant located in the 3600 block of Camp Creek Marketplace and shot another male. Two innocent bystanders were also struck. All injuries are  non-life threatening.

Kinsey’s friend, Yali Gonzalez, added,” We just tryna chill, tryna enjoy dinner as usual.”

The popular southern cuisine establishment is owned by Atlantan and Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss Tucker and her husband, television producer, Todd Tucker.

The couple also own an OLG location in the downtown area on Peters Street.

Mrs. Burruss released the following statement on her Instagram:

“My family and I are truly saddened by the unfortunate events that occurred at Old Lady Gang (OLG) Camp Creek, on the evening of February 14th, an evening that was meant to celebrate love, unfortunately turned into something quite different.

Our prayers and thoughts go out to the individuals that were harmed or in any way negatively impacted. We are aware that this matter is being actively investigated by law enforcement and we are cooperating with law enforcement to bring to justice those involved.

As African-American business owners, it has been our goal to invest in our community by bringing jobs, quality dining, and a positive experience to the greater Atlanta area; we hope that you know and understand that the acts of violence that occurred yesterday evening do not, in any way, serve as a reflection of OLG or its values.

We appreciate all of the love and prayers that have come our way and we encourage anyone with any information regarding any aspects of the events that occurred to please reach out to law enforcement as soon as possible.”

February 15th, 2020
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — The worldwide death toll from the Coronavirus outbreak has surpassed 1,600.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now setting up labs across the country — including Los Angeles — to test anyone who has flu-like symptoms. San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago and New York are also involved, with more sites on the way.

The World Health Organization is sending a team to China to help out at the outbreak’s hot zone. More than 1700 health care workers there have been infected. The U.S. government is also preparing to evacuate American citizens stuck on a quarantined cruise ship in japan.

About 380 Americans, including a couple from Santa Clarita, have been aboard the Diamond Princess since February 5th because of the Coronavirus outbreak. The U.S. embassy in Japan says Americans will be flown back to the States February 16 on a chartered flight.

They will have to undergo another two weeks of quarantine when they get back. So far, 218 people have tested positive for Coronavirus on that ship.

Flashback: the Samsung Galaxy S II was a best seller, its variants ushered in the 4G era – GSMArena.com news – GSMArena.com

February 15th, 2020

This week Samsung unveiled three Galaxy S20 phones – well, six models actually, as each phone has a 4G and a 5G version. If you think that’s a lot of models, then you don’t remember what happened when the Galaxy S II was unveiled.

The Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II was announced nine years ago in February 2011 and released in April that year. It was the second edition of Samsung’s new flagship line, packing some of the best tech that the company had to offer, including a 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus screen and Exynos 4210 Dual chipset.

Flashback: the Samsung Galaxy S II was a best seller, its variants ushered in the 4G era

The Galaxy S II display panel featured a full RGB stripe, which improved the sharpness even as the resolution remained the same (480 x 800px) compared to the original Galaxy S. It was a tad larger too, though 4.3″ is minuscule by today’s standards. But this was the phone that the original Galaxy Note was based on and it was the Note that kicked off the large screen madness.

Anyway, the Exynos was among the first generation chipsets with a dual core processor and it was among the fastest of its day. Motorola tried to advertise the Atrix as “the world’s most powerful smartphone”, but the UK Advertising Standards Authority found that the Atrix processor was not as fast as that of the Galaxy S II.

The latest TouchWiz 4.0 featured support for hardware acceleration, which made its (admittedly busy) graphics animate smoothly. The phone began life with Android 2.3 Gingerbread but it would be updated to 4.1 Jelly Bean before it bowed out.

The camera was upgraded to an 8MP back-side illuminated sensor. Thanks to the new chipset, the Galaxy S II could record 1080p video – with around 2MP resolution per frame, that was quite a feat back in the day. Then again, it’s only 1/16th of the 8K resolution that the Galaxy S20 trio can pull off. Things have changed a lot over the last 9 years.

The Galaxy S II proved to be a hit for Samsung and is one of the phones that helped propel the company to #1 manfacturer globally. The phone was selling like hot cakes, moving 3 million units in 55 days, 5 million in 85 days and going up to 10 million in the first 5 months of availability. In Q3 of 2011, Samsung overtook Apple in terms of smartphone shipments (the South Korean giant had doubled its market share compared to Q3 2010).

This is where things start to branch out. Samsung introduced the I9100G Galaxy S II relatively early – it was virtually the same phone, except the Exynos was swapped out for a TI OMAP 4430 (same CPU, but the Mali-400 GPU was replaced by PowerVR SGX 540).

The reason we wanted to focus on the Galaxy S II for this Flashback article is because it came out right around the time that carriers in North America and South Korea were starting to promote their newly activated next generation networks – 4G.

The Galaxy S II i777 for AT&T was essentially identical to the global S II and was a 3G-only phone. A few months later, the Galaxy S II Skyrocket i727 came out. This one had a slightly larger screen, but more importantly it switched to a Snapdragon S3 chipset, which brought an LTE modem. The Skyrocket and the HTC Vivid were among the first 4G phones on AT&T brand new LTE network. It was so new that when we reviewed the Skyrocket, New York still didn’t have 4G coverage.

There was also this weird version – the Samsung i927 Captive Glide. It was technically part of the Galaxy S II family, but it was almost completely different. It had a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a smaller 4.0″ Super AMOLED display and was powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 (same chipset as the Moto Atrix).

Telstra and Optus in Australia, Rogers in Canada, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile in the USA, even China Telecom all received custom versions of the Galaxy S II LTE I9210. T-Mobile (Galaxy S II T989) and Telus (Galaxy S II X T989D) received an interesting variation of this model, it used the Snapdragon S3 chipset, but featured only 3G connectivity. Qualcomm’s modem was still faster than the one in the Exynos, offering 42Mbps downlink, double what the vanilla Galaxy S II could pull down.

The likes of the Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch for Sprint (US Cellular got a very similar device) stuck with the Exynos 4210 chipset but featured CDMA and EV-DO connectivity – this was a competing 3G standard that is now all but dead. KDDI in Japan and LG U+ in South Korea also received EV-DO phones.

There was a Galaxy S II HD LTE as well, which upgraded to a 4.65″ Super AMOLED screen with 720p resolution – this one one of the first HD panels by Samsung. AT&T was going to get this as the Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD i757 but the model was canceled before release.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is more than a phone – it’s about a dozen phones. S II branded devices used no less than four different chipsets and four different connectivity configurations. Actually more than that, there were revisions we didn’t even mention – the Japanese phones with i-mode.

Many of these variations were dictated by carrier needs. AT&T’s 4G network went live in September 2011 and needed compatible phones – with LTE phones in stores, it could promote blistering new download speeds and charge a small premium for both phone and contract. T-Mobile wouldn’t begin its LTE rollout until early 2013.

Today, the situation is similar except 5G is the new buzzword. Some carriers already cover the busiest parts of major metropolitan areas and are boasting how fast their new network is. Those carriers are already at work promoting the 5G variants of the Galaxy S20.

The selection of chipsets has narrowed down to just Snapdragon and Exynos, but this time around they are virtually equal in terms of connectivity (both require an external modem). Besides the chipset and some variation in RAM/storage options, however, the Galaxy S20 phones are nearly identical around the world – and none of them have awkward names like “Epic 4G Touch”.

Rick Moranis Set To Return For New “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” Film – HotNewHipHop

February 15th, 2020

If you grew up in either the ’80s or ’90s, chances are one of your favorite films was the 1989 family fun classic Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, in addition to its sequels Honey, I Blew Up the Kid from 1992 and Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves released on home video in 1997. Now, after a 23-year break and surprisingly no reboots in-between, a new film is currently in the works with its lead star Rick Moranis officially jumping back in the lab as Wayne Szalinski.

Bruce Glikas/FilmMagic

The past two decades have been good on Moranis, who was spotted looking pretty well back in 2017 at an afterparty for In & Of Itself in NYC (seen above), making his reported return to the series feel even more exciting. One of the reasons he hasn’t made another film in the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids series, or any other project since the mid-2000s, was due to his slow transition into an acting hiatus to be a single father of two following the death of his wife in 1991. Now, at the young age of 66-years-old, it looks like he’ll be back and ready to dust off that old lab coat. Deadline reports the film, simply titled Shrunk, will be distributed through Disney and bring back original director Joe Johnston. In terms of the plot, actor Josh Gad is set to star as an adult Nick Szalinski who apparently ends up shrinking his own kids. Shrunk is also scheduled to hit theaters and not the popular Disney+ streaming service, so get ready to make a return to theaters as well.

Are you excited for a new Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movie and the return of Rick Moranis? Let us know down in the comments after peeping the original film’s trailer below:
